Next Available Harvest

We have bought two new bred cows; one cow has a heifer at her side.  All together we have five bred cows who should be delivering in February / March 2009 time frame.  It is always fun watching the little ones try out their new legs.  We have cut back on the number of steers.  There are only four steers that we will be carrying throughout the winter ... so if you want quality beef next year, you better get your order in now.

We've Moved To The Ranch

We have decided to consolidate.  Sold the house on Sodus Bay and have relocated to the ranch.  I was spending most of my time down at the ranch anyway and it was time for a change.  Chris and I have been working hard, Chris more than me.  Inside our new home has been completely repainted and/or wallpapered, new clothesline poles, new high use area so we are not drowning in mud, new windows, and we have refinished the front porch.

Going Organic

We are currently working on a plan to move towards a fully organic herd.  Our current herd has had the natural vaccinations to resist diseases and build immunities, but they have not had any growth hormones and are being fed grain that may or may not have pesticides or herbicides.  Our pastures are clean with no artificial fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides; we only use nature fertilizer to promote good grass growth.  In addition to the daily feeding of grain and corn, hay is still provided to ensure a healthy diet.  The hay we buy is free of pesticides and herbicides.

New Grain Bin

We have a new four ton grain bin installed.  We are tired of lifting 100 pound sacks of grain and it is expensive.  This new grain bin will lower our over operating cost and provide better nutrition for our cattle.

New Corral

It was getting pretty dangerous trying to separate out cattle to take to the market as well as corner them if we ever needed to treat them for medical problems.  We also are planning to start a breeding program which will require a corral, with swing gate, alley way, and a squeeze chute.  So we bit the bullet and started construction.

New Hay Barn

Progress is being made ... little by little.  Finally got a new hay barn, plus storage for hay trailer, stock trailer, bush hog, york rack, back blade, etc.  Forty two by forty makes a nice storage area.
